Vietnam's largest airport Tan Son Nhat has added 20 new daily domestic flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City this winter to meet spiking Lunar New Year demand.
That means 3,000 more seats traveling through the southern economic hub from January 6 to February 5 during Vietnam's largest traditional holiday.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has ordered airlines to rearrange several flight schedules during peak hours to avoid air congestion as the number of passengers during Tet is set to skyrocket.

Domestic carriers are increasing the frequency of flights by 20-30% this festival compared to last year.

A Vietnam Airlines spokesman reported that the number of 2023 Tet season air tickets bookings has already grown 23% compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Low-cost carrier Bamboo Airways plans to increase its holiday flight totals by 20%, equivalent to one million seats, beginning January 6.

In Vietnam, Tet prompts millions of migrant workers from major cities to return to their home provinces, as well as masses of holiday-goers flocking to tourist hotspots.

The upcoming Lunar New Year falls on January 22 and the government has approved a seven-day break from January 20-26.

Air ticket prices for the upcoming Tet have doubled year-on-year.

In 2019, pre-pandemic Vietnam's aviation industry was experiencing annual double-digit growth of 116 million passengers.

This year CAAV expects to serve 100 million air passengers.

Historically, Vietnam's most traveled Tet air routes are: Hanoi-HCMC, HCMC-Da Nang, as well as HCMC flights to and from Hai Phong, Vinh, Thanh Hoa and Hue.
