Camping on the white cliff overlooking the Nho Que river

Coming to Ha Giang, when traveling on Ma Pi Leng pass, visitors can see a small road craggy on the opposite side, at the foot of the white limestone mountain. It is a walking route to conquer white cliffs.

The white cliff is located on the top of Chua Lanh Gau, which in the Mong language means Co Tien mountain. The cliff is located in Pai Lung commune, Dong Van district and Pa Vi commune, Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province, at an altitude of about 1,700 m above sea level.

The white cliff walking route is 5 km long, connecting from Xeo Sa Lung village, Pai Lung commune to Ma Pi Leng village, Pa Vi commune. Coming here on September 16, Ta Ba Lo, a travel blogger of the Bo Y ethnic group who was born and raised in Ha Giang, rated the route as moderately difficult, suitable for new mountain climbers.

From Ha Giang City, he traveled by motorbike along Highway 4C to the top of Ma Pi Leng Pass, the section connecting Dong Van and Meo Vac towns. After that, he hired a motorbike taxi to take him through a narrow 3 km long road with cliffs on one side and a cliff on top of Ma Pi Leng to reach the hiking spot. From here, walk about a kilometer along the hiking path to reach the campsite. Total travel time is more than 40 minutes.

Throughout this “cloudy road” are panoramic views of the majestic scenery of the scenic Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que River.

“The cool atmosphere gives the feeling of walking between heaven and earth. When you touch the cliff, you can feel the fracture of the mountains and hills,” Ta Ba Lo said. According to him, this route is quite easy for newbies because it is mainly concrete roads and trails that people travel every day. Steep and dangerous sections are protected by iron railings.

“Walking on the highest road in the Ma Pi Leng area gives me a feeling of being very small amidst the majestic nature of Ha Giang,” Ta Ba Lo said. If you are lucky enough to go on days with suitable conditions, you can see seas of clouds floating at the foot of the mountain.

Every point along the way is an excellent check-in corner. Especially on the hiking trail, there is a viewing platform for visitors to take photos and enjoy the panoramic view of the space below.

The camp site is a depression in the White Cliffs. This rocky hollow has an empty field about 3 m wide, about 10 m long, where 5-6 single tents can be set up.

However, the rock hollow does not have iron railings like the hiking path, so visitors need to pay special attention to safety issues and should not gather too many people.

From the rock hollow at an altitude of nearly 1,700 m above sea level, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the wonders of Ha Giang such as Nho Que river and Tu San alley below. The undulating and winding road in the distance is one of the four great passes of Vietnam, Ma Pi Leng (along with Pha Din, Khau Pha, O Quy Ho passes).

Without wifi or phone signal, this is the ideal place to enjoy the beauty of wild, quiet nature, temporarily away from daily life.

Visitors should bring lightweight food and drinks and warm clothes because the temperature drops at night. The camping location is quite deserted, visitors should go in groups to ensure safety and support each other. They need to clean up before leaving to preserve the landscape.

Tourists should go on a day with nice weather to fully enjoy the natural beauty; Avoid rainy season and foggy days, which affect movement and visibility. The appropriate time is August – November and March – May every year.
