Hai Phong launches public bicycle rental service
A total of 39 bike rental spots are to be set up in Le Chan, Hong Bang, and Ngo Quyen districts.
Each rental spots is roughly 10 to 15 square metres wide and can accommodate between 10 and 20 bikes.
Each bike features a smart lock and locator for the operator so they can keep track of the vehicle.
In order to rent a bike, locals can download a mobile application and set up an account. The app can be used in order to unlock a bike at any rental spot by scanning in the QR code.
Locals are able to freely use the bikes when travelling around the city, as well as locking and unlocking them via the app. Bikes can also be returned at any rental spot in the city.
Rentals can be paid by through bank transfer, credit card, or direct deposit via the app.
Prices start at VND5,000 for 30 minutes, with VND1,000 for the next six minutes.
The new service aims to help reduce traffic congestion and harmful carbon emissions, which mostly come from motorbikes, especially old models that are not eco-friendly.
